Research Perspectives

Volume 4, Number 2

Welcome back to Research Perspectives! Our second issue of 2016 contains six timely and informative pieces on a variety of investment topics. The first two pieces focus on the recent decision by the United Kingdom to leave the European Union. We begin by addressing the economic and political ramifications of the “Brexit” decision and then we review its near-term investment performance implications, particularly for various trading-oriented hedge fund strategies.

Each of the next two articles makes a case for the inclusion of private market investments in a diversified portfolio. The first discusses the sources of value creation and the resulting return enhancement potential of private equity investing. The second emphasizes the growing acceptance of private debt as a strategic component of a diversified institutional portfolio. One of the appealing aspects of private debt is higher yield, and that topic is further explored in an article on income funds.

We close with a Q&A with Helga Birgden, a global business leader for Responsible Investment at Mercer. Helga provides a comprehensive view on the topic of climate change from an investment perspective.

Topics covered include:

  • A Post-Brexit World
  • Hedge Funds Post-Brexit
  • Value Creation in Private Equity
  • And more...

We hope you enjoy this edition of Research Perspectives.
